TRAV SHORT

Trav fell in love with the electric bass guitar in 1991. After two years of trying to figure out how the damn instrument worked, his talent (frustration) was noticed by John Calverley, who proposed a musical collaboration. From their early days together in the band ‘Sub Worm Feeders’ they founded and maintained a strong musical bond and for Trav, the seed of a jazz-punk was planted.

In 1994 he attended the music program at Grant MacEwan College. He hated it so he quit before the end of the first year. But while there, a much larger world of music was presented to him and the best lessons he took to heart. How to practice, to work really hard and how to listen and play what Trav would play.

Since his old college days Trav has performed and/or recorded with Edmonton songwriters Tanyss Niixi, Robin Hunter, Jenn Kraatz, Melissa Majeau, Shuyler Jansen and John Gorham to name a few. In addition to his own composing and performing he has provided the “low end” for local theatre and dance and has been honored to perform many times with Edmonton avant-guard/musique actuelle collectives ‘T.I.N.’ (the improvised network’) and ‘Rise’ (hosted by Brett Miles). The drive to create & perform original music led to the birth of ‘AUDio SQUADron’ in 2002. The same year saw him join the world-beat fusion group ‘Moksha’ which released their first CD ‘Lady Sun’ in 2004. Playing fretless electic bass in Moksha sparked his current love affair, the upright bass, which he studies with symphony bassist Ioan Tetel. Trav is also an active music educator in the Edmonton area and cannot, to save his own life, grow a beard.
