DENNIS BOISVERT
Dennis’ musical journey starts at the foot of a stage staring up at his family’s country band, Danny and the Starlights. Even at the tender age of five, he was enthralled by the sounds and collaboration of his grandfather, various aunts, uncles and father as they played and sang together. A curious compulsion was born inside the young boy that has only grown over the years.
Growing up in rural Alberta, Dennis was exposed to the grass root country music that was the dominant sound in the province. Once he got behind the kit his compulsion to play and to learn all he could about rhythm took over. Dennis started playing professionally at the age of sixteen focusing on country and then rock music.
He attended Grant MacEwan Community College’s prestigious music program for one year before the restrictions of school set in. He does credit Grant MacEwan for teaching him how to read music and helping him to develop his practice regimen but the call of the music was too strong to ignore and he abandoned traditional instruction in favor of hands on experience.
Dennis continued to explore various types of music, willing to play anything that challenged his musicianship. Over the years Dennis has sat behind the kit for bands like Section 8, Harold’s Disease, Rust Bucket, Granny Dynamite, Turbine Trenchfish, Matthew’s Grin, The Shannon Fayth Band, Julia Marshall, L.J. Daylee, Mary Thomas & Juke Joint, The C.P.D. Blues Band, The Crooks, Melissa Majeau & The Muse and A Stone’s Throw. While with the Shannon Fayth Band, Dennis had the pleasure opening for Kim Mitchell, Colin James & Jeff Healey in 2000. He hasn’t forgot about his country roots and still plays regularly with his old school country band The Sliver Spurs.
Dennis attended PowerSound Studio’s course for recording and found his feet drumming in a studio enviroment. Recording at 1000 Decibels Studios with East Indian fusion group The Moksha Ensemble and at Homestead Studios with his old school country group The Silver Spurs. Dennis now operates Big dB Productions, his own studio, and has recorded a variety of music genres that include The Crooks (Irish music), All Else Fails (metal) and Big Jim Trio (Blues).
He has studied drums under the tutelage of Brain Thurgood, Sandro Dominelli & Randy Cooke. Dennis enjoys exploring different styles of drumming such as blues, jazz, metal, funk, R&B, reggae, country, pop & rock. His influences include: Danny Carey, Roy Haynes, Tony Williams, Carter Beauford, Zorro, Amir Tomphson, Jim Black, Buddy Harmon, Chad Smith, Kenny Arnoff & David Garibaldi.
Dennis is always challenging himself to explore a more musical & creative approach to the drum kit, while expressing himself through the medium of rhythm. The AUDio SQUADron cultivates Dennis’ drive and desire for creative expression through music. It is through the SQUAD that he has found kindred spirits, creative forces who inspire and drive him to strive for excellence in music. His musical jouney continues.
